Third Assignment: Multimodal Podcast

Good morning Dear Students,

Following you will find the instructions for our following exercise. Remember, these podcasts ought to be ready for October 21st to be presented in class.

As stated in the course objectives, we are engaging in critical consciousness about certain problems that arise when we try to make moral judgments. We will explore them not for you to agree on them, but to question their validity and their potential contributions, as well as point out their existing flaws as a means of improving your awareness about them. For this assignment, you will create a podcast where you need to take a critical yet reflexive stance about these problems. You will address the following question: How those decisions we make as free individuals will not affect others negatively yet they represent who we are and believe in? (feel free to use examples to illustrate your ideas) You will weave your argument relying on course literature and additional sources from your own searching. The podcast should be somewhere between 10 to 15 minutes long. This assignment must be in groups of maximum four students. You will create it and bring it to class on October 21st. You are at liberty to interview teachers, students, friends, family, faculty members, and so on. However, their interventions cannot comprise more than 30% of the podcast and they must be in English as well.

The following are some websites and videos intended to help you pulling together this assignment.

The following is the rubric that will be used to evaluate your podcasts

THE GREAT DEBATERS

Class Debate

For your midterm exam for Controversies, Dilemmas: Perspectivism class, you will be debating a proposition in two groups. You were given a proposition topic, a position of either negative or affirmative, and a specific role within your group will be decided by your group as well. Each team member is responsible for a section of the debate, but you will be graded (and judged) as a group by the professor. Therefore, you must work collaboratively on the preparation of the debate as a whole. The debate should last somewhere between 30 to 45 minutes.

You all decided on the topics of (Drug Use – Abortion in juxtaposition to Adoption)

You ought to engage in the following debate structure where there is a specific role for each member of the team:

  1. Name a chair in each group.
  2. Plan arguments with your team. Each member of the group should plan their arguments separately so they do not influence other team members.
  3. Cross out any repetitive arguments and improve those that may need it.
  4. Divide the arguments amongst the number of speakers, so that each team member has a particular topic to develop as part of the argument.
  5. Find evidence to support your case – facts, opinions, quotes, references or objects.
  6. Hints for refuting or rebutting arguments (finding holes in the other team’s arguments):
  7. Try to guess beforehand what the other team might use.
  8. Take note of the authorities quoted by the other team in support of their arguments – are they valid?
  9. Don’t waste valuable time in challenging a minor point.
  10. Challenge the opposing team to supply further evidence for their arguments, if needed.

Since I am fully aware that these two weeks are for midterms, my proposal is to start working on this assignment immediately and see if you have the chance to meet synchronically and bring your arguments to prepare within your team otherwise, use your whatsapp groups.

I will see you all on monday september 16th for this activity.

State Punishment & Death Penalty

What ethics is?

I can start saying, ethics is a social construction, it seems simple, but we have to think in every single way that the ethics are feeding during our whole life.

It starts in our homes, our family gives us, the cement, to know which is good or bad, something simple like being a dress, take a bath or wash our teeth, give good qualifications and make our homework, most of us face in some point of our lives, take the decision of tell a lie, or face the truth and tell our parents that we fail in some course.

On the second stage, we start to forge our character and these lessons give is in our homes, begin to meet other ways and points of view. On this point, we initiate to take our decision evaluating which is good or bad on the base of our parents or family lessons.

We grow into a full adult and in those decisions that we took before, the give us good or bad experiences. those experiences help us to understand more how we need to live in society.

Those decisions are directly involved with us and that is how morality and values are built.

I can say, Ethics is how we act on society, morality is how we think of that society, they are existing in an eternal symbiosis and one change if the other does.

  7. Will citizens be allowed to carry a gun?
